My old monitor recently died, so I replaced it with two plus a stand.
Monitors: ASUS VH242H 1080p LCD with speakers
$189
Pros: Bright, full 1080p. Inexpensive. Crisp text (after tuning). Lots of horizontal space. Almost too much really. They look pretty, especially on my dual mount (see below). Built in speakers, so you can hook your XBOX to the HDMI input and switch from the computer to take a break.
Cons: Somewhat hard to tune, I didn't like any of the presets. And you can't read the button labels even in bright light let alone my cave. Detaching the stand mounts is a pain. Too wide.
Other Thoughts: I hate the trend towards widescreen, I bought to replace my trusty 1600x1200 that died. I really don't need that much width. In portrait format 1080x1920 isn't wide enough for many websites these days. My old monitor was great for that.
Stand: Planar 997-5253-00 Black Dual Monitor Stand for LCD Displays
$124
Pros: Fits two 24 inch (16x9) monitors... Just barely. Anything wider won't work. Swivel to portrait is easy. Very well constructed. Easy to put together. Frees up a ton of desk space underneath.
Cons: Could be taller, I'm at the top of the range and still want a little more. I am 6' 3" though. I can't quite fit my speakers under the monitors, need another 2-3" of vertical space.
