A tutorial on how to build a PC from scratch. This one is geared toward running Adobe Premiere as fast as possible.
Turn a pile of parts like the one pictured below into a fully functional PC designed for running Adobe Premiere. We've cut our render times in half and can preview movies in full quality finally!
Here's the parts breakdown and what we paid:
-
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K 3.4 GHz CPU
$314.99
-
CPU FAN: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
$25.92
-
MB: ASRock P67 Extreme4 B3 Intel P67 ATX Motherboard (sold out)
$159.99
-
ALT MB: ASRock X58 Extreme ATX Motherboard
(The above is sold out, try this instead).
-
DVD: Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive
$25.99
-
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
$249.99
-
CASE: Cooler Master HAF ATX Mid Tower Case
$89.99
-
Side Fan: Cooler Master 200mm Red fan
$15.73
-
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB SATA 3.0 Gb-s
3 @ $49.99 each = $159.97
-
ALT HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Internal Hard Drive
(Good luck finding Hard drives these days, see below)
-
MEM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1333MHz DIMM PC3-10666 Desktop Memory
2 @ $34.95 each = $69.98
-
PSU: Seasonic 660W 80 Plus Gold
$109.99 (got a shell shocker here from NewEgg, this is 40 bucks off of the regular price)
-
Capture: Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI Editing Card PCI Express
$189.05
Notes:
- The capture card actually went into the old PC to turn it into a streaming station for games.
- Many of these prices represent deals that we jumped on over the course of two months while planning this build, your prices will vary.
- Hard drives are ridiculously expensive now thanks to all the flooding in Thailand. You'll be lucky to get one for the same price we paid for three.
If you're too lazy to do the math, we spent $1,241.55 on the render PC and another $189.05 to turn the old PC into a streaming station.
Here's a picture of the insides after it's all put together:
Pretty awesome, this thing is way quiter than the old and more than twice as fast. 16GB of RAM means plenty of room for growth too. Check out this video of me putting it together to some sweet "computer building music".
